Despite a sensational career in daytime television, Heather Tom’s screen-time on The Bold and the Beautiful (B&B) has been noticeably slim these days. As a result, viewers have suspected that Katie Logan may soon disappear from the canvas altogether.
In a recent interview, Tom took the opportunity to look back on her years in the limelight with B&B and The Young and the Restless (Y&R). She also revealed how she plans to juggle her directing gigs with her acting work.
“I’ve been in the vortex of daytime since I started on Y&R when I was 15,” Tom exclaimed to Soap Opera Digest, “and I remember we were talking about a three-year deal and I was like, ‘Oh, my God. Three years?’ And then I ended up staying there for 13.”

“When I did start on B&B, I only signed a six-month contract, so I wasn’t sure what was going to happen,” the six-time Daytime Emmy winner continued, “and then once I jumped in, I was like, ‘I hope this show goes forever and I hope I can be a part of it.’ It’s been a wonderful place to go to work.”
While Tom’s experience at Y&R gave her an early taste of fame, she reserves her glowing praise for CBS’ other daytime program.
“I jumped at the chance to work with Brad [Bell] and the Bell family again,” Tom revealed, “and honestly, when I got there, I was like, ‘Who knew this oasis was across the hall this whole time?’”
In 2016, Tom began pursuing a career in directing. She started with some B&B episodes and then, in order to get into CBS’ directors program, she directed a few short films.

“So I did three short films and went back to them and was accepted as part of the program,” Tom explained. “Through that, I got Dynasty. In fact, I’ve just finished my sixth [episode of] Dynasty. I also did Good Trouble, so it’s been wonderfully crazy.”
Tom’s absence on B&B can be explained by her budding talent as a daytime and prime time director, but where does that leave her character, Katie Logan?
“I don’t want to obligate myself to anything,” Tom stated. “I love Katie and I love acting. I’ve been doing it my whole life and yet directing is really exciting. I’ve always wanted to keep learning no matter what, and this is an exciting way to do that.”
Even though her new passions have taken her behind the camera, B&B has been a supportive place for Tom to build a new career.
“When I started directing for B&B, I didn’t know how it would be received,” Tom admitted, “but there was nothing but love and support, and you feel like everyone wanted you to succeed. It’s such a nurturing place to live.”
Thankfully, it sounds like Katie will stick around Los Angeles, albeit in a limited capacity. But will she reunite with her former Y&R cast-mate Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman) in the forthcoming crossover event, as spoilers hint? We’ll have to tune in to find out!
