The Rookie may be getting a spinoff!
ABC announced that a potential spinoff is in the works for its popular police drama, The Rookie. The spinoff will star the Emmy-nominated actress Niecy Nash in the leading role.
They are set to introduce Nash’s character to the The Rookieverse in an upcoming two-episode arc. She will play the character Simone Clark, a tour de force and the oldest rookie at the FBI Academy. These episodes are intended to set audiences up for a potential spinoff that will allow characters to move back and forth between the two series.
Official details and airdates have not been announced as of yet, but some information about the first episode was revealed. The first episode will follow Fillion’s officer John Nolan and the Los Angeles division of the FBI as they request the help of Nash’s FBI trainee Simone Clark after one of her former students is suspected of crime at a local power station.
“I’m so excited to guest star on The Rookie and bring Simone Clark to life!” Nash said in a statement about the upcoming role. “She is a spirited and spicy fish out of water. The cast is amazing and I can’t wait to play!”
Nash recently concluded her time with a fourth and final season of the popular TNT series Claws. A few of her other popular TV roles include Reno 911!, Never Have I Ever, When They See Us, Q-Force, and Mrs. America.
