After almost a year behind bars, Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice has finally been released from the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut, just in time for Christmas.
The 43-year-old was met by her attorney James Leonard Jr. for the long awaited moment and as soon as she was released Giudice headed home to her four children to finish the rest of her sentence under house arrest. “Everyone’s just very proud of how she’s handled things and gotten through it and stayed strong,” someone close to the the star previously stated. “They’re really thankful she’s finally coming home.”
Back in 2013, Teresa and her husband Joe were charged with charged with “conspiring to defraud lenders and illegally obtain mortgages and other loans,” while they also hid assets and some income during their bankruptcy case. Joe also got an additional charge of failing to file tax returns from 2004 to 2008 and was consequently sentenced to a 41-month jail term.
Now that Teresa has returned home, Joe will begin his stint behind bars and may also be facing deportation back to Italy.
