Creed frontman Scott Stapp, 41, took everyone by surprise when he posted a video to his Facebook page dubbed, “Public Statement #1,” in which he claims he is “under attack” and has lost all his money leaving him homeless and starving.
While he insists in the video this all came about after he started investigating his own finances as well as his record company’s only to discover he had been robbed, there are reports that he has a history of being delusional.
Although he seems to be in a proper state of mind in the video and insists he is sober, there are now reports that two weeks prior to posting the viral video, he was placed on a psychiatric hold.
TMZ reported that Stapp was found wandering the side of the road in Madison County, Florida and “he appeared wasted, incoherent and rambling that someone was trying to poison him.”As a result officers decided to put him on a 72-hour psychiatric hold.
Further details about Stapp’s life in light of the video have also surfaced including the fact that his wife of eight years, Jaclyn Stapp, filed for divorce in October 2014 claiming he was delusional and paranoid and he was hearing voices and had also threatened to kill himself.
It was also Jaclyn who claimed that all of his money was gone because he spent it all on drugs which is what urged him to bluntly state in the video that he “is as sober as can be” and does blood and urine tests weekly to prove it.
Although Creed hasn’t had major success in the last few years, their success of the 90’s and 2000’s with hits like “With Arms Wide Open” and “Higher” left with them with multi-platinum albums and enough wealth that Stapp should probably not be broke.
Stapp has not released any more statements since his video.
