NBC’s medical drama New Amsterdam will end with its fifth season.
NBC revealed that the previously announced fifth season will also be the the final season will clock in at 13 episodes, marking the shortest one for the show. The show is currently in its fourth season, but since being renewed in January 2020, the show has seen its ratings decline.
Created by David Schulner, New Amsterdam stars Ryan Eggnold as medical director Max Goodwin, whose goal is to provide exceptional care to patients and America’s oldest hospital and disrupt the status quo. The show tells the story of the understaffed and underfunded New Amsterdam hospital and follows the medical professionals as they navigate their own personal journeys.
Aside from Ryan Eggold, other stars on the show include Freema Agyeman, Jocko Sims, Janet Montgomery, Tyler Labine, Anupam Kher, and Daniel Dae Kim.
“The story of Max Goodwin and his never-ending commitment to patients at New Amsterdam has been inspiring,” Lisa Katz, president of scripted programming at NBC, said in a statement. “We’re so grateful to David Schulner, [executive producer] Peter Horton, and our cast and crew for their incredible dedication, talent and collaboration.”
President of Universal Television, Erin Underhill, added, “We’re so proud of this series and are indebted to everyone involved in bringing New Amsterdam to life.”
New Amsterdam airs Tuesdays on NBC. The season 4 finale is set to air on May 24.
