While it has been unclear just how severe Dancing With the Stars pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s calf injury was, it did require him to undergo surgery. On Wednesday, March 28, the pro dancer took to his Instagram to share a photo from his hospital bed ahead of the surgery for the injury which he suffered during rehearsals last week.
“Gettin’ un-broken…#seedsorthopaedics,” he wrote alongside the pick of him wearing his hospital gown with an IV in his hand.
Previous to the post, he offered a more silly photo along with words of support for his partner Heather Morris who danced with Alan Bersten as Chermkovskiy’s replacement in week two of the competition. “Thank you all for so much love and support! And for having @heatherelizabethh back with all your votes. I’m also very excited about her and @alanbersten Tango next week. Please rest assured that I’m taking this thing very seriously and, although I don’t have a concrete return date, I’ll give it my all! In the mean time here’s me, making bad social media choices.”
The 37-year-old suffered the injury on Friday, March 24 while practicing a spin, causing him to hold his leg and exclaim, “It’s my calf muscle. It just felt like something hit it.”
Among those hoping for a quick recovery for Maks is his son Shai. His fiancée Peta Murgatroyd took to her Instagram to share an adorable photo of Shai along with the words, “Wishing Dadyy a speedy recovery from La La Land. We love you and can’t wait to get you back. Kisses from Shai XO.”
