Conner Floyd Shares His First Impressions As Chance On Y&R

When The Young and The Restless (Y&R) called and asked Conner Floyd to audition, he was given precious little information about the role. He certainly didn’t know much about Phillip “Chance” Chancellor IV.

“They kept it pretty secret, so I was given a dummy name with dummy sides,” Floyd recently explained to Soap Opera Digest. “So I had no idea [who Chance was] until Melissa [Ordway, who plays Abby] slipped me a little info.”

Describing his first interactions with the actress who would play his on-screen wife, Floyd acknowledges that Ordway may have saved his audition.

“I was sitting in the lobby, nervous and sweating, and reading through my lines,” he explained. “She came out and sat next to me and asked, ‘Are you testing?’ When I said, ‘Yeah,’ she said, ‘You’re testing with me!”

“She gave me some character details that really helped in my audition when we read together,” he continued. “This was the first time I tested for a studio, so my adrenaline was pumping. I took a couple of deep breaths to calm myself down but once we got in there, it was fun.”

Echoing a similar sentiment that Rory Gibson (Noah Newman) made about Y&R’s audition process, Floyd described the line-reading as relaxed and positive.

“Everybody was easy to work with, giving me notes and chatting me up,” he summed up. “It made the whole experience pretty fun for me.”

Floyd received the call three days later that he’d landed the role, and his Genoa City training began in earnest. Judging from the actor’s words, it sounds like a baptism through fire.

“I had a lot of lines,” Floyd recalled. “I got to set, the director said ‘welcome’ and threw me in the deep end. There was a lot of explaining [from Chance] about what’s been going on, so it was quite a mouthful.”

So be warned, Y&R fans: Chance has a lot to catch you up on! As for what else we can expect from the dashing new Chancellor, Floyd seemed particularly impressed with his character’s fashion sense.

“This guy is looking really slick, I tell you,” he said of Chance. “There are a couple of jackets that they better not leave out because I might take them home with me!”

As for making connections amongst the cast, it should come as no surprise that his audition angel, Ordway, has been a life-saver all the way.

“My first couple of days were with Melissa and she’s basically been my on-set mom, introducing me to everyone, giving me the [rundown] on how things work and helping me with my lines,” Floyd acknowledged. “She’s been a great partner to have in this whole thing.”

And while Floyd was careful not to mention any other cast-mates he’s taped alongside, it sounds as though he’s already been in some group scenes. Perhaps even this one!

“I’m excited to be around all of this talent and soak up as much as I can from these savvy vets,” Floyd beamed.

Conner Floyd is expected to make his Y&R debut on November 30th.
