“It’s pretty clear that Elliot will be in the SVU season opener. I think that much I know,” showrunner Warren Leight recently said on SVU’s behind-the-scenes podcast. Of course, Leight also made clear that because of the ongoing health and safety situation it is not certain when they will be able to start filming for season 22 of the hit show.
On the podcast, he said he wasn’t sure if Stabler’s wife and son would still appear on the show. “Whether we’ll get to see his family as well remains to be seen,” he said.
Back in March it was announced that Meloni’s Stabler would be getting a new spin-off series in a 13-episode drama that revolves around Stabler leading an NYPD organized crime unit.
Meloni himself confirmed the spinoff by writing on Facebook, “He’s back…”
The Stabler spinoff show is still in the early stages of development with Wolf, Arthur W. Forney and Peter Jankowski serving as executive producers. Chicago P.D.‘s Matt Olmstead is being eyed to write and showrun the new spinoff series, according to Deadline‘s report.
Meloni starred opposite Mariska Hargitay’s Olivia Benson on SVU from season one to season 12, with his last episode being 2011’s “Smoked.”
