Chloe Lanier is coming back to General Hospital (GH) to reprise the role of Nelle Benson!
While this news will surely send shockwaves throughout GH audiences, it comes with a surprising detail: Benson’s return will be a brief one. According to the September 12th issue of Soap Opera Digest, Lanier won’t be staying for long.
As Lanier tells the magazine (as per SoapHub), executive producer Frank Valentini reached out to the star and asked if she’d like to step back into her old character for a short run. The actress was elated and stated that she would be eager to return again in the future.

Fans had been speculating about the actress’ comeback, after Lanier posted a photo of herself at ABC studios on her Instagram story. Beyond that clue, however, no one anticipated Benson’s return from the afterlife!
The actress’ comeback will mark her first appearance on the GH canvas since her character fell off a cliff in September 2020. It is unclear at this time whether Benson will return to Port Charles alive and well, or as a ghostly spirit.
If the scheme queen survived her perilous fall, it would seem odd for Benson to stop by Port Charles so briefly. Perhaps Lanier’s upcoming scenes will be flashbacks, given that her character has been mentioned in storylines connected to Carly (Laura Wright), Nina (Cynthia Watros), Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) and Wiley (Théodore Orson).
No airdate has been revealed for Lanier’s return.
