Only hours before the 50th Annual Country Music Association Awards were to take place on Wednesday, November 2, it was announced that none other than Beyonce was going to be performing.
Many country fans were not in favor of Beyonce performing because the CMAs of course are all about country music. Regardless, Beyonce took to the stage with none other than the Dixie Chicks for a performance of Beyonce’s song “Daddy Lessons” from her visual album Lemonade.
Since the singer dropped her album back in April, “Daddy Lessons” has caused a stir in the country music world as many fans have denied that it is a country song, while many stars such as the Dixie Chicks defended the song as being a part of the country music genre.
While Beyonce’s inclusion in the awards show was met with mixed reactions from country fans, it isn’t the first time or probably the last a huge musician from a different genre performed at the awards show. Just last year, fans went wild over Justin Timberlake’s duet of “Tennessee Whiskey” with Chris Stapleton.
