Oscars 2018: Worst Dressed Stars

Source: Abaca Press

The 2018 Oscars have come and gone, but not without a moment to review the red carpet fashion of the evening! This annual Academy Awards red carpet was filled with a sea of rainbow dresses after this year’s fashion blackout from the Golden Globes. Although we saw quite a few show-stopping numbers on last night’s red carpet, we undoubtedly saw a few misses as well. Follow along for a recap of last night’s 12 worst dressed stars from the 2018 Oscar’s:

12. Blanca Blanco

Blanca Blanco bared it all on last night’s Oscar’s red carpet where she stepped out wearing this red and white plunging number. The look showed a little too much skin to be tasteful and we wish Blanco had opted for something a little more covered up. Despite this, the red and white combo worked well together with Blanca’s dark features.

11. St. Vincent

American musician St. Vincent definitely had a questionable fashion moment at last night’s Academy Awards. Her look featured a strange uber short hemline and an exaggerated asymmetrical sleeve on one shoulder. The look was a little too unique and avant-garde to be a fashion risk that was well rewarded!

10. Lindsey Vonn

Lindsey Vonn’s look from last night was quite chaotic and confusing! The Olympian’s black number consisted of glitter, mesh, sequins and feathers, which was far too much embellishment to look streamlined and elegant. To make matters worse, Vonn topped the look with a chunky choker that didn’t flow with the look and came across as tacky.

9. Paz Vega

Paz Vega definitely missed the mark with her floral embroidered look from the 90th Academy Awards. Although we love the red detailing and off-the-shoulder neckline, the pops of check print coming from beneath the cape completely detracted from what could have been a totally elegant fashion moment. There’s a time and place for mixing prints, we’re just not convinced that the Academy Awards is it!

8. Whoopi Goldberg

Whoopi Goldberg hit a fashion extreme with her Oscars look this year! We are all for a dramatic awards show gown, but this look was a little too busy. The voluminous gown featured a statement floral print that came across quite casual for the formal awards show gala. We would have much preferred Goldberg opting for something more timeless and less trendy. We were also quite confused by her decision to wear sunglasses on the red carpet which further added to the bizarre fashion moment.

7. Viola Davis

Viola Davis is typically a red carpet all-star, which left us even more disappointed with this Barbie pink gown! Pink is definitely a tricky shade to pull off on the red carpet without coming across as juvenile, which is why we would have much preferred if Davis wore a softer, powder pink shade. Her hair also seemed to detract from the look and a chic, sleeked style would have been much more appropriate to let the bold dress speak for itself without battling with the statement hair.

6. Taraji P. Henson

Taraji P. Henson is typically super elegant and classy on the red carpet which left us feeling quite confused by her sheer black number for the 2018 Oscars! The gown showed a lot of skin between the sheer panelling and ultra-high slit which made this an unfortunate fashion miss.

5. Kelly Ripa

Kelly Ripa took out all the stops with her red carpet look for the Oscars, but unfortunately, it wasn’t for the better! Her voluminous look featured a black material with peaks of color cascading from a bow down her back. The look seemed a little too costume-like and theatrical for our liking!

4. Andra Day

Andra Day’s look from the red carpet was completely bizarre and confusing! The look featured a relatively casual floral print, ruffles in all directions and oversized balloon sleeves. We were totally shocked by this look and would definitely advise Day that simplicity is better than too much when it comes to awards show fashion.

3. Saoirse Ronan

Saoirse Ronan is one of the most stylish women in Hollywood at the moment, which is why this simple pink number didn’t seem to quite fit her standard! The look wasn’t awful, but it was just quite plain in comparison to some of her other killer red carpet looks from earlier in the year. The color is nice on Ronan’s fair complexion, but the back ruffles and strange ankle-length cut were not the most flattering.

2. Emma Stone

Emma Stone is notorious for making the best-dressed list each year, which is why we were totally shocked when she stepped out in this casual blazer look! We’re all for a strong power suit on the red carpet, but this look definitely fell flat. The red and pink clashed and there was too much silk happening at once to be flattering.

1. Salma Hayek

Of all the looks from this year’s Oscars, we were the most confused by Salma Hayek’s sequin gown, The obscure look was definitely quite tacky and juvenile on the ever-elegant Hayek. There was purple, glitter, diamonds and tiers which simply came together to look quite chaotic and questionable.
