The O.C.’s 10 Most Annoying Characters

Considering that it was such a hit show, it’s amazing to think how many annoying characters The O.C. had. While some of these characters came and went fairly quickly, some of them were more permanent, which was even more irritating. For those of you who are fans of The O.C., here are 10 of the series’ most annoying characters:

10. Matt Ramsey

Matt Ramsay was nothing but trouble. From letting a teenage Marissa spend the night at his home to taking Ryan to a strip club to trying to blackmail Henry Griffin, Matt was constantly getting himself and The Newport Group into hot water. No one was sad when he left Newport with a severance check before the end of season three.

9. Heather

It’s hard to like anyone who bullies someone as freely as Heather did Marissa. She was just so unnecessarily mean that it was totally annoying and, in some ways, totally unrealistic.

8. Marissa

Marissa was one of the lead characters, but she was totally annoying for many reasons. For one, she had absolutely no chemistry with Ryan, yet somehow they were the couple people were supposed to root for. She was also kind of pathetic. She went from one crisis to the next and constantly needed to be rescued. The actress who played Marissa – Mischa Barton – wasn’t especially convincing in the role. She was wooden and, by the third season had obviously given up.

7. Jess Sathers

During season two, Jess Sathers was a force to be reckoned with. She was so manipulative and managed to get Trey into all kinds of trouble. In season three, she was like the second coming of Marissa. She was totally weak and in desperate need of being saved. Having one damsel in distress like Marissa was bad enough. Two was way too many.

6. Rebecca Bloom

Sandy’s pot smoking, fugitive ex girlfriend Rebecca Bloom was definitely not a fan favorite. Any woman who tried to come between Sandy and Kirsten was forced to endure a lot of scorn. We definitely would have preferred to see less of Rebecca. She seemed like she was permanently stuck in the past and determined to drag Sandy there.

5. Lindsay Gardner

Lindsay and Ryan had a lot of chemistry – when she wasn’t crying to her relationship (or lack thereof) with her dad, Caleb. Seriously. She spent so much time either whining or crying about her daddy issues, it quickly became annoying. Looking back, the whole situation seemed kind of Freudian.

4. Dean Hess

Who can forget Harbor’s Dean of Discipline, Jack Hess. He had only one thing on his mind – getting Marissa and Ryan expelled from Harbor and getting it on with Taylor Townsend. One of the main reasons his character was super annoying was because he came off as more of a caricature – he was just over-the-top mean.

3. Oliver Trask

The writers obviously wanted to shake up Ryan’s world, but did they really have to use such a clichéd plot device? Oliver is easily one of the most annoying characters ever. His constant plotting and over-the-top craziness was just a little too much.

2. Dennis “Chili” Childress

Chili was almost as annoying as his best friend Johnny. It seemed as though he was brought onto the show as some form of comic relief, but that didn’t work out. He wasn’t especially funny and he wasn’t really that likeable either.

1. Johnny Harper

Johnny was super annoying. He moped around a lot, especially when he seriously injured his knee, and his obsession with Marissa did not make him anymore likable. When the writers finally put him out of his misery by having him drunkenly fall off a cliff, fans couldn’t have been happier – Johnny really was that hated.
