8. Upcoming Wedding

In October of 2016, Matt and Amber were planning on silencing their critics with a fall wedding, but things were only made worse for the two when Amber called the whole thing off. While many assumed that would be the end of the pair’s relationship, they have seemingly remained strong and now have new wedding plans in mind. According to Matt, the pair are planning to wed “this October. Ideally Oct. 10 because that was the day we met in person for the first time.” Additionally, Amber is planning on designing her own wedding dress, adding that is “thinking something with a late ’40s to early ’50s style.”

7. The Concerns

Right from the beginning, many had their doubts about Amber and Matt’s relationship, starting with with the pair’s 20 year age gap. Aside from that, his previous twitter interactions with other Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2 stars really made it seem he was just waiting for one of them to give him the time of day, and he didn’t care which one, and then once he and Amber were together came Baier’s child support scandal. Rumors flew that Matt has anywhere from five to nine children that he is not paying child support for and was using Amber for her money. Eventually a woman claiming to be Matt’s ex-fiancée spoke out and called Matt a “conman,” adding, “He has this way of making you think that everyone else is crazy. [And] he loves you like no one else.” She even went on to tell Amber to “RUN! Don’t get pregnant, that’s the big thing. When you’re with him, you don’t see the red flags. It wasn’t until afterward that I saw everything and I couldn’t believe that I hadn’t seen it before.” Despite the warning, Amber has stood by Matt and said he has told her about his five children and has no reason to believe there are any more.

6. The Twitter Controversy

By now, fans are well aware of the Twitter drama that plagued the pair’s relationship after it was revealed that Matt had hit on both Teen Mom OG‘s Farrah Abraham and Teen Mom 2‘s Jenelle Evans. Eventually the whole situation was discussed on Teen Mom OG when Farrah talked to Amber about it, and finally fans got to hear Matt’s explanation: His friend took his phone and was the one who tweeted at the two Teen Mom stars. Eventually, Amber spoke out to Cosmopolitan revealing she didn’t even really believe the explanation. “Do I believe it? Not really. Do I care? No, not really, because this was all before we even started talking. That’s like when you’re with somebody and you say, ‘How many women have you slept with?’ I’m not really mad about it or anything because I’ve been with the man for over two years, and we have a really good life together. There’s no doubt in anybody’s mind that this man loves me.”

5. Changing His Tone

Aside from Matt possibly being the one who tried to hit on Farrah Abraham over Twitter, he also came under fire for hitting on Jenelle and then turning around and tweeting really mean things. He also used his Twitter to be extremely rude to Teen Mom 2‘s Kailyn Lowry, and Amber acknowledges that as well, admitting that he has changed, and he lied about never watching the show. “He’s just an older man who doesn’t want to admit that he watched Teen Mom because all of his friends would be like, ‘You’re such a freaking wussy.’ He used to say all that mean stuff about Jenelle and them. I had to tell him, ‘You can’t do that s–t because those are real people, and this affects their lives,’ and he stopped. He was just kind of like that asshole sarcastic guy when I met him. This was when we first started talking. We hadn’t even met yet.”

4. Entrepreneurs

Over the many years and continued success of Teen Mom, many have criticized the show for making the stars famous and not encouraging them to get real jobs. Amber in particular has often been accused of “being lazy” and never leaving her house, but she and Matt have made moves as it seems more and more Amber is getting ready to leave the show. The most recent season of Teen Mom saw Amber and Matt begin their house flipping business, and now Amber has started her own online fashion store. “I’m so proud of Amber’s business and more importantly, how far she has come as a person. When she sets her mind to something she exceeds everyone’s expectations,” Matt said of his fiancée’s new entrepreneurial pursuit.

3. Lawsuit

Despite all of their efforts to live a low-key and happy life, drama found Amber and Matt once again in February 2017 when it was reported that the pair were being sued by a former landlord for failing to pay rent and for destruction of property. It was then reported that the pair were facing a lawsuit from their current landlord for not paying rent and claims that their dogs had destroyed the home. Sick of the attacks on them, Amber and Matt actually released a lengthy statement after the rumors spread, saying, “The rent story is 100% not true.We purchased our home from a private investor. We pay a mortgage. We do not pay rent. The lawsuit/eviction filing was done improperly. It was a complete and utter misunderstanding. When it was filed, the person that filed the paperwork- and has since rescinded it on the same day- has admitted such. In text message to us, we were told to ignore the quote rumors because they’re not true. It was filed mistakenly and we were apologized to hours later when we found out about it. Our mortgage is paid months and months in advance and we have receipts to show that, although they’re not claiming anything otherwise. This was a complete misunderstanding, and none of what you’re reading is true.”

2. The Assault Case

While Baier has been wrapped up in scandals since making his debut on Teen Mom OG, one of the worst is one less talked about. In March of 2016, Radar Online revealed that aside from all the paternity cases, Matt had a restraining order filed against him by a woman who claimed he had sexually assaulted her. According to the reports the order was filed only months before Baier began dating Amber in 2014, and the woman claimed to be an ex-girlfriend of Baier who said the incident took place on Christmas Eve in 2013. Baier adamantly denied the story and the woman dropped the order, allegedly saying, “because she was afraid he would retaliate if she didn’t.” To make the whole thing even worse it was later confirmed that the woman in question took her own life six months after filing against Baier.

1. Getting Together

Although fans were absolutely shocked when they found out that Matt was moving in with Amber after only his first visit to Indiana, it may not have been as sudden as it seemed. The pair got to know each other online for about six months after first connecting on Twitter, and even when they met up, it wasn’t to start a relationship. “When we met as friends, not only did we realize we had addiction in common, we had almost everything in common. We had music, we had movies, we had past experiences,” Matt revealed adding that they never thought a romance was going to be the result. Despite what people thought as well, Matt actually had a job as an IT recruiter for a large company and the job was flexible enough that he could move from Boston to Indiana, although it seems he no longer has that job.
