A big part of being a celebrity is constantly fielding questions, whether in sit down interviews with magazines or shows or while on the red carpet and, of course, for planned media events like press conferences for films.
While most of the time these things go smoothly, every so often an interview goes horribly wrong and things between the star and interviewer get awkward quickly, which was what happened at the press conference for Tom Hardy’s new film, Legend.
Halfway through the conference, a reporter for the LGBT news outlet Daily Xtra decided to ask the Mad Max star a question about celebrities discussing their sexuality, and Hardy made it clear, it was not the time or place for that. “Our question is for Tom Hardy,” the reporter began. “In the film, your character, Ronnie, is very open about his sexuality. But given interviews you’ve done in the past, your own sexuality seems a bit more ambiguous. Do you find it hard for celebrities to talk to media about their sexuality?”
Hardy responded with, “What on earth are you on about?” causing the reporter to clarify, ” I was referring to an interview give to Attitude magazine a few years ago.”
That’s when things got pretty awkward as Hardy asked, “But what is your question?” “I was wondering if you find it difficult for celebrities to talk about their sexuality,” the reporter said before Hardy abruptly stated, “I don’t find it difficult for celebrities to talk about their sexuality…Are you asking me about my sexuality?” The reporter was clearly thrown off stating, “um, sure,” and Hardy quickly asked, “Why?” causing the questioner to stammer, “Um…” but by then Hardy had enough cutting him off with, “Thank you.”
