Jim Carrey is being faced with some serious accusations following the death of his ex-girlfriend, Cathriona White.
According to TMZ, White’s estranged husband, Mark Burton, has now filed a lawsuit against Carrey claiming that the actor illegally obtained prescription drugs and then provided them to White. As a result of Carrey providing the drugs, Burton is claiming that Carrey facilitated in her death in which she overdosed on Ambien, Propranolol and Percocet.
The suit goes on to state that Carrey got the drugs under the name Arthur King, causing Burton to sue for wrongful death and violation of the drug dealer liability act. The suit states that Carrey provided the drugs “[d]espite the fact the he knew full well that Ms. White was ill equipped to ingest and manage highly addictive prescription drugs outside the care of a licensed physician; was prone to depression; and had previously attempted to take her own life.”
Burton goes on to also claim that the famous star provided the drugs to White three or four days before her death, and not only that but he tried to cover it up afterwards by sending a “bogus text message on September 27, 2015 to White (who was already deceased) pretending as though he had misplaced the drugs and insinuating White may have taken them from Carrey without his knowledge.”
Carrey has not yet responded to the lawsuit, but Burton’s attorney Michael Avenatti has stated, “We will be calling on the Los Angeles DA to open an investigation into Mr. Carrey’s role in the death of Ms. White. We look forward to the evidence and facts supporting the allegations in the case coming to light.”
