The four years of marriage between two of country music’s biggest superstars Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert has been a rocky one, as they have had to dodge and deny rumors of cheating, fighting and impending divorce at every turn but, unfortunately, this time the headlines are true.
“This is not the future we envisioned,” the pair said in a statement. “And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.”
According to TMZ the divorce papers were filed “a while ago” by Shelton, 39, in his home state of Oklahoma and the proceedings were made easy by the former couple’s prenup from when they were married in May 2011.
Although the couple have been plagued by rumors of divorce and marriage trouble frequently, the news is still surprising because, only back in April, Lambert, 31, spoke at the 2015 ACM Awards about what makes her marriage with Shelton “work.” Also, the two are constantly joking about the rumors on Twitter.
Shelton and Lambert first met in 2005 when he was still married to his highschool sweetheart Kaynette Gern and Lambert was regarded as the reason for his divorce, as he started dating Lambert shortly after he and Gern split in 2006.
Meanwhile, Shelton’s Twitter cover photo remains of his now ex-wife while Lambert’s Twitter photo is of her and Shelton together.
Lambert and Shelton were married on May 14, 2011 and do not have any children together.
